How to Select an Indonesian Yacht

From Explorer to Ultra Luxury. How the categories compare, with guests, cabins, crew and nightly rates.

By the Vhana Indonesia desk · · 8 min read

Lamima under full sail on deep blue water in Indonesia

Indonesia has some of the most extraordinary charter yachts in the world, and the range is wide. A private charter can cost under $2,000 a night on a simple two-cabin boat or more than $50,000 a night on a 30-guest expedition yacht. Both will take you to the same reefs. What changes is the space, the size of the crew, the range and the level of service.

To make the fleet easier to compare, we group our 48 personally vetted yachts into four price categories, Explorer, Comfort, Luxury and Ultra Luxury, plus a Boutique category for intimate yachts of one to three cabins. Every charter rate below is for the whole yacht, fully crewed, with meals and daily activities included. Traveling solo or as a couple? Cabin voyages let you book a single cabin on a published sailing.

How to choose a yacht category

  • Start with your group size. Count guests and how many cabins you need. Couples and small families often fit a Boutique yacht, groups of eight to fourteen usually look at five to seven cabins, and larger groups need an Ultra Luxury yacht or two yachts sailing together.
  • Decide how far you want to go. Komodo trips of four to seven days suit every category. Raja Ampat, the Spice Islands and Alor are longer, more remote voyages where the larger crews and range of Luxury and Ultra Luxury yachts make the biggest difference.
  • Weigh service against budget. More crew means more attention, more activities running at once and more polish at every meal. Comfort yachts already offer a high crew-to-guest ratio, so they are often the best value for couples and small groups.
  • Check diving. Diving is included on some yachts and charged as an extra on others. If diving matters, tell us your certification level and we will match you to a yacht with the right dive program.
From $15,500 to $54,000 / night

Cabin voyages: the same islands, by the cabin

An over-under view of a tender, phinisi yachts, and a coral reef in Indonesia
Aqua Blu sails both private charters and cabin voyages through eastern Indonesia.

Not every voyage needs a whole yacht. On a cabin voyage you reserve a single cabin on a published sailing and join a small group of like-minded travelers aboard a fully crewed yacht. The route is already drawn through Komodo, Raja Ampat, the Spice Islands or the rivers of Borneo, and the reefs, anchorages and crews are the same ones our private charter guests enjoy. Many of our private charter yachts, from Damai I and Mutiara Laut to Aqua Blu, also sail cabin departures. It is the perfect way for solo travelers and couples to experience Indonesia by sea, at a fraction of the cost of a private charter.

An intimate small-ship voyage, without reserving the whole yacht.

  • Book a single cabin on a published sailing
  • Small groups of like-minded travelers
  • The same yachts, crews and anchorages as a private charter

Yacht category questions

How much does it cost to charter a yacht in Indonesia?

Private yacht charters in Indonesia start from about $1,750 per night for a small two-cabin boat and rise above $50,000 per night for the largest expedition yachts. Most groups choose yachts between $4,000 and $20,000 per night, which covers the whole yacht, a full crew, meals and daily activities.

What is the difference between Ultra Luxury and Luxury yachts?

Ultra Luxury yachts have larger, highly trained crews, more space and additional amenities, and most include all meals, snacks and alcohol. Luxury yachts offer a high standard of comfort and service at roughly half the nightly rate, with smaller crews and fewer onboard extras.

What is a boutique yacht?

A boutique yacht has one to three cabins. Boutique is a size category, not a price tier, so boutique yachts range from simple Komodo boats to exclusive yachts with more than two crew per guest.

Which yacht category is best for a family?

Families of six to twelve usually choose Luxury or Comfort yachts with four to seven cabins. Larger families or multi-generational groups often choose Ultra Luxury yachts, which have more cabins, more crew and more space on deck.

Is alcohol included on Ultra Luxury yachts?

On most Ultra Luxury yachts, all meals, snacks and drinks, including wine and cocktails, are included in the charter rate. Inclusions vary by yacht, so we confirm exactly what your yacht includes before you book.

What is a cabin voyage?

A cabin voyage lets you book a single cabin on a published sailing instead of chartering the whole yacht. You join a small group of travelers on a fully crewed yacht with a set route and dates. Cabin voyages in Indonesia start from about $400 per person per night.

Do all yachts include diving?

No. Most yachts offer snorkeling and many run dive programs, but diving is included on some yachts and charged as an extra on others. We confirm exactly what your yacht includes before you book.

Not sure which category fits?

Tell us your dates, group size and the way you want the days to feel. A member of our Indonesia desk will reply the same business day with a shortlist of yachts.

Rates are starting prices per night for a private charter and vary by season, route and group size. Park fees and some diving may be extra. Updated October 2026.
