A 59-foot klotok built for the Sekonyer River in Tanjung Puting National Park. Three ensuite cabins carry up to six guests to Camp Leakey, orangutan feeding platforms and blackwater canals.
Sekonyer is a traditional Indonesian klotok, 59 ft long and 10 ft wide, built new rather than converted from an older hull. Three air-conditioned cabins sit below deck, each with a double or twin bed, reading lights, a fly-screened window and an ensuite bathroom with a western toilet and locally made soaps. The upper deck is open to the river, with rattan furniture, a dining table and roller blinds for rain.

Life onboard
The Sekonyer River is the door to Tanjung Puting: peat swamp, blackwater lakes and more than 230 bird species. Days run to Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui and Camp Leakey, the research station where older orangutans return to the forest. Proboscis monkeys sit in the nipa palms at dusk. An English-speaking guide, boatman and cook travel with the group.

Day 1Pangkalan Bun airport to Kumai. Board and cruise to Tanjung Harapan for the 15:00 feeding. Late-afternoon wildlife along the nipa palms. Optional night walk.
Day 2Cruise the blackwater canal to Camp Leakey. Forest walk to the feeding platform and research station. Overnight on the river.
Day 3Pondok Tanggui morning feeding, then downstream to Kumai and the airport.
