The ship

Rahai'i Pangun

The Rahai'i Pangun is a 72 ft by 20 ft traditional Kalimantan riverboat, a bis air converted into a liveaboard for Central Kalimantan's jungle rivers. Master boat designers and local craftsmen set the lines. Four wood-lined cabins sit on the lower deck, each with air-conditioning, an ensuite bathroom and wall-to-wall windows. The upper deck is the living room of the ship: sofas, deck chairs and fusion Indonesian meals cooked from fresh local ingredients, with the forest moving past on both sides.

Cabins

Operator cabin notes sit below. Ensuite bathrooms and air-conditioning are standard on this riverboat.

Life onboard

Days balance wildlife and Dayak culture. Canoes reach Pulau Kaja, a Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation island. The Kahayan carries the boat past peat-swamp lakes, grey-sedge weaving cooperatives and villages that still keep painted sandungs. English-speaking guides stay with the group. Routes move with river levels.

How to book: charter or cabin

Rahai'i Pangun can be booked as a shared cabin sailing or as a private charter for the whole riverboat. Published cabin rates start at $1,270 per person, double occupancy. Private charter starts at $2,554 per day. Dates are confirmed on inquiry.
