About Carpe Diem

Carpe Diem’s keel was laid at Tanjung Bira in 2012. She left the beach in 2014 as a 34-metre (112 ft) ironwood and teak phinisi, then took a refit in 2017. Four ensuite cabins, ten guests at a stretch, eight crew. Take the whole ship for a private week, or join a published cabin sailing if you only need one room.

Pala, the master, sits on the main deck with forward windows and a skylight. Below, Cengkeh converts from twins to a double. Pandan and Kayu Manis each hold a double and a single, so a family can put a child in the same cabin without taking a fourth room. The saloon seats ten. Meals move outside when the weather holds. The upper deck takes a book, a stretch at first light, or nothing at all.

Two dive masters, a 7-metre tender and a smaller runabout, kayaks and paddleboards live onboard. Certified divers use the kit. Nitrox and courses sit outside the night rate if you want them. She works Komodo in the dry months, the Banda Sea when she repositions, and Raja Ampat when the west season opens.

Central and South Raja Ampat

8 days · 7 nights · Sorong round-trip

This is the usual shape of a Central and South week. Days, dive sites and the order of landings move with weather, currents and who is in the water. The last dive is around midday on day 7. Wait 24 hours after that dive before you fly.

  • Day 1 Sorong. Transfer from the airport or hotel. Safety briefing, cabin, and a first afternoon or night dive if the clock allows, then the run into Raja Ampat.
  • Day 2 Dampier Strait. Up to four dives on sites such as Mioskon, Chicken Reef, Sardine Reef, Cape Kri, Yenbuba, Sauwandarek or Friwen Bonda. Wobbegong, pygmy seahorses, sweetlips and bumphead parrotfish are the usual company.
  • Day 3 Manta and Piaynemo. Two morning dives on manta sites, one afternoon dive at Piaynemo, then the viewpoint hike before the boat turns south at dusk.
  • Days 4 to 7 Misool. Three or four dives a day, plus lagoons and landings around Balbulol, Fiabacet, Yeliyet or Boo. Soft coral, sea fans, more pygmy seahorses, and oceanic manta if they are in. Day 7 is two morning dives, then the run back toward Sorong. Watch for dolphins and whales on the crossing.
  • Day 8 Sorong. Transfer to the airport or hotel in the morning.

Central and North Raja Ampat

8 days · 7 nights · Waisai round-trip

Same cabin-week inclusions as price details. Days and sites move with weather, currents and who is in the water. The last dive is around midday on day 7. Wait 24 hours after that dive before you fly.

Since July 2025 the far north has been off limits. Mining licenses on some islands were revoked. Protest around those sites has disrupted liveaboards and day boats, so boats have been told not to visit Wayag and Wofo until the government says it is clear. If that still stands on your week, those landings drop out. The dive count stays the same. Other sites in the area take their place.

  • Day 1 Waisai. Transfer from the ferry or hotel. Safety briefing, cabin, then an afternoon and a night dive at Mioskon.
  • Day 2 Piaynemo. Three dives. After the third, the viewpoint hike and time in the lagoon.
  • Day 3 Wayag, when the north is open. Morning trek to the viewpoint, one dive, then the lagoon and a beach. If Wayag is closed, the same dive count moves to other sites nearby.
  • Day 4 Wofo and Yanggefo, when the north is open. Four dives. If Wofo is closed, four dives on other sites in the area.
  • Day 5 Manta Sandy and Arborek. Dives on the manta site and around Arborek, with time in the village if the clock allows.
  • Day 6 Sauwandarek and Yenbuba. Four dives.
  • Day 7 Kri. Two morning dives, then the run back to Waisai in the afternoon.
  • Day 8 Waisai. Transfer to the ferry or hotel in the morning.

Questions

Carpe Diem FAQ

What kind of ship is Carpe Diem?

A 34-metre wooden phinisi, built in Sulawesi in 2014 and refitted in 2017. Four cabins. Private charter when you want the ship, or a cabin on a published week when you do not. She is a dive-ready family boat, not a 14-guest phinisi.

Who is she for?

A family that wants bunks in two of the cabins, a small dive group that wants the whole ship, or two people who want one cabin on a published week. Ten is the private maximum. Eight is the quieter private week.

How do the cabins sleep?

Pala is a main-deck double. Cengkeh is twins that convert to a double. Pandan and Kayu Manis each have a double and a single. That is how she reaches ten.

Where does she usually cruise?

Komodo from April to September, the Banda Sea and Alor when she repositions, then Raja Ampat and Triton Bay in the west season. Tell us your window and we will say which coast she is on.

Can I book one cabin instead of the whole ship?

Yes. Published weeks sell by the cabin, per person, two sharing. Pala is the main-deck master. Cengkeh, Pandan and Kayu Manis sit below. If you want the ship to yourselves, we quote the private night rate instead.

What is included on a cabin week?

Full board, soft drinks, tea and coffee, toiletries, linen and towels with one change during the cruise, airport, ferry or hotel transfers to and from the boat, and scuba or snorkel kit subject to what is onboard. Village and park fees are $25 USD per person per day, paid in rupiah on board. Alcohol, crew tips, visas, flights, hotels before and after, insurance and single occupancy sit outside the published rate. See price details.

Is diving included?

For certified divers, yes: kit, tanks and two dive masters sit in the night rate. Nitrox and PADI courses are extra. Non-divers keep the kayaks, the paddleboards and the beach days.
